COLA Matters/Health Matters

COLA matters to me because my spouse and children will soon be out of health insurance. As a family of four, my spouse and I must work to make ends meet, but as of last year, our income disqualified us from receiving governmental services. Health insurance is still extremely expensive. My spouse has a chronic autoimmune condition and we often see ourselves in the emergency room. One of my sons has a genetic condition for which we see a specialist in San Diego. When we lose our medical insurance, we will no longer be able to afford either services.

I would get a second job if it was logistically possible, but I put well over 30 hours per week in my TAship alone. My coursework is a full time job in itself. COLA will, for the time being, allow us to pay for medical insurance.
